Calatrava-born John Michel Zulueta successfully defended his Asian Boxing Federation minimumweight belt via unanimous decision victory over Mike Kinaadman of Cagayan de Oro during the ‘Bakbakan sa Bacolod’ – a Masskara Festival Special Presentation held at the Gaisano City Mall.
All judges favored Zulueta as Henry Cestina and Frank Alojado both scored 98-92 while international judge/referee Samson Libres has it at 96-94.
Both fighters tried to finish the 10-round battle early with some solid performances, but because of their levelled abilities, they often play counter punching.
With the win, Zulueta improved his record to 9 wins and pair of draws including 3 stoppages while Kinaadman further dropped to 6 wins, 7 defeated and pair of draws.
Meanwhile, in the main undercard, Paul Verona of La Carlota City outplayed Rommel Redondo of Murcia in the 6-round clash as judges Gideone Nietes and Cestina scoring 58-56 apiece while Alojado wrote 59-55.
On the other, Handumanan’s Rodel Sioco outboxed Murcia’s Thomas Rebusit in a 4-round face-off with 2 judges scoring a favourable 39-37 and the other 40-36.
Jerson dela Cruz stopped Ricky delos Santos with a solid right for the initial knockdown and cemented his victory with a knockout with 1:52 minutes in the second round.
The championship fight was presented by Mayor Evelio Leanardia Boxing Development Program backstopped by the Bacolod Amateur Boxing Association in cooperation with the Singwancha Foundation, N1S, and Bacolod Lone Rep. Greg Gasataya.*
