THE Ceres Negros FC had a solid performance last Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium – beating Davao Aguilas FC, 2-0 to keep their solo lead atop of the table in the ongoing Philippines Football League.
Bienvenido Marañon broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when he scored Busmen’s initial goal from 15 yards as Mike Ott doubled the lead in the second half. Named ‘man of the match’ veteran keeper Toni Doblas, meanwhile, played tough defense on Ceres FC’s denying the Aguilas’ goal attempt.
For Ceres FC administrator Nicolas Golez, the team played well under very extreme conditions. “As always, the team will give 100% to give pride to our supporters and fans,” he said.
Team manager James Dinsay also echoed how the Ceres FC performed despite the heat that comes along with a 4PM. “Both teams had to suffer through the intense heat but, everyone in the team is in good shape and they all worked hard. We stuck to our game plan and executed it well,” he said.
Looking forward in their next week’s match against Yangon United FC of Myanmar for the AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal Semi-finals, Dinsay said described that the Busmen are playing at a very good level now, and will be ready against the visitors. “We all know how important the game is, especially playing at Panaad Stadium. We are excited and looking forward to the challenge,” he added.
Ceres FC will take Yangon United on May 9 at 7PM.*
