Lopue’s-La Salle Team headed by their patron Dr. Leonito “Diotay” Lopue claimed two gold medals in the recently-concluded 2018 National PRISAA table tennis tournament held last April 23-26, 2018 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol .
The La Salle tertiary men-bannered Region 6 which is composed of John Paul Gubaton, John Michael Castro, James Saligumba, and Cris Lester Rejon captured the championship title after sweeping then 4-peat defending champions Region 7 in the finals, 2-0.
Castro dominated his bracket and won the championship over Cebu’s Fausto Zeus Comaingking of Cebu in the finals, 3-0.
Moreover, Region 6 tertiary men doubles of Saligumba and Rejon were also awarded the silver medal after yielding to their Cebu counterparts, 3-1
Meanwhile, the Lopue’s-La Salle tertiary women’s team of Jhayren Rose Villanueva, Catherine Samson, Kimberly Faith Trasporto, and Stephanie Shyne Villanueva settled for bronze after losing to University of Cebu in the semi-finals.
The women’s singles, the doubles and the mixed doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinals but were eventually eliminated.
Castro was awarded the ‘best player’ of the tournament while, Pastor Hosea Alvarez was named as the ‘best coach’.
Also joining the Lopue’s-La Salle team during the competition is coach Marell Lagunday.*
