WESTERN Visayas (Region 6) is ready to bring a solid challenge in the forthcoming 2018 Palarong Pamabansa in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on April 15-21 with a strong 662 contingents.
After representing separately in the last 2 Palaro stagings, Iloilo and Negros Occidental will again hand-in-hand anchor Western Visayas with 229 and 186 competitive student-athletes, respectively, alongside 75 coaches, 11 assistant coaches and 25 chaperons. Also with the Region 6 delegation are 66 contingents from Aklan, 39 from Capiz, 18 from Antique and 13 from Guimaras.
And, with 3 weeks left before the annual DepEd-sanctioned competition kicks off, featuring the 17 Regions in the country, the local organizing committee ensures the readiness of its facilities within Vigan City and co-host Ilocos Sur.
Among the venues hosting the 16 events include: athletics – Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur and University of Northern Philippines in Vigan City; archery – San Ildefonso Elementary School in Ilocos Sur; arnis – San Vicente Municipal gym in San Vicente, Ilocos Sur; badminton – Vigan City Convention Center and UNP Badminton Courts; basketball – San Ildefonso Municipal covered court (elementary), Caoayan Municipal gym (secondary girls), Quirino Stadium Open Courts (3×3), and San Juan Municipal gym (secondary boys); billiards –Lyric Billiards Center; boxing – Plaza Burgos in Vigan; chess – Baluarte Function Hall-A, Vigan; dance sport and aero gymnastics – NSCC Function Hall in Caoayan.
Moreover, football will be played at the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary (elementary and futsal) and Quirino Stadium (secondary); gymnastics – Sto. Domingo Municipal gym; pencak silat – Brgy. Tamag covered court in Vigan; Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan and Quirino Stadium open courts; softball – Cirilo Lao Construction ground in Bantay; swimming – Quirino Stadium pool; table tennis – Philippine Schience High School gym in San Ildefonso; taekwondo – St. Paul College gym in Bantay; and tennis – Quirino Stadium open courts (elementary boys) and Vigan City Tennis Club (elementary girls), Sto. Domingo Tennis Courts (secondary boys); volleyball – Sta. Catalina Municipal gym (elementary boys), Brgy. Pantay Daya covered court (elementary girls), Brgy. Poblacion gym –Sto. Domingo (secondary girls) and Quirino Stadium open courts (secondary boys); wrestling – Brgy. Beddeng Laud covered court; and wushu – Brgy. 9/Titong Singson Multi-purpose hall in Vigan.
