Pelione, Verdun emerged champs in CSAV chess tourney

CLARK Ken Pelione and Xavier John Verdun came out with solid games on Tuesday to win the titles in Mixed 14 and Under and Open category of the Colegio de Sta. Ana Victorias Festival of Chess held at the City Mall-Mandalagan.

Pelione scored 6.5 points after 7 rounds followed by Jamon Cajeras with 6.0 points as Cedric Deniel Ignacio tallied 5.5 points apiece for 3rd and 4th places, respectively.

Completing the Top 10 are Aera Kerl Charm Sinining, CJ Gan, Erich Singson, and Jasmine Atienza with 5.0 points each for No.5 to No.8 places while Jessie Regnaut Solquillo and Jose Charles Montalvo with 4.5 points apiece for 9th and 10th places.

The champion received P4,000 as second place will get P3,000; 3rd place – P2,000; 4th place – P1,500 and 5th place –P 1,000 while P500 for the 6th to 10th.

On the other hand, Verdun edged second placer Danny Maerks Mangao as FM Sander Severino, Josevito Tapulgo and Syrel June Coleta with 5.5 points for 3rd to 5th places. Meanwhile, Edgar dela Pena, Marvin Ting, Ted Ian Montoyo, Fritz Bryan Porras and Joseph Navarra scored 5.0 points for 6th to 10th spots.

The champion earned P 6,000; as P5,000 – second place; P4,000 – third place; P3,000 for fourth place; and P2,000 for fifth place. Meanwhile, sixth to tenth placers will get P1,000 each.

A special awards of P500 each for best 12 years old and below, best 10 years old and below, best 8 years old and below, and best lady performer.
