THE Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts came out with 2 solid wins over the weekend to seal their 5th place over-all finish in the just-concluded Rebisco Girls Volleyball Season 15 National League of Champions at the Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
Tay Tung survived over their University of Mindanao-Tagum City counterparts: 25-17, 20-25 and 25-12 behind Alyssa Bertolano’s 12 points.
The Bacolod team opened the first set with a 3-0 lead but, University of Mindanao equalized at 3-all. However, Tay Tung surged to a 16-7 lead and further expanded their dominance, 20-8 before eventually sealed the first set win, 25-17.
In the second set, Tay Tung opened a 4-0 blast but, Tagum squad slowly got back and equalized the scoreboard at 6 points apiece and extended their advantage to 11-9. Tay Tung put the game closer at 16-14. But, the Mindanaoan team resurged to 19-14 advantage and never looked back as they levelled the game at 1 set apiece.
But, the Bacolod team cameout sizzling in the 3rd set blowing away their UM rivals as they took full control of the game to take home the 5th place over-all ranking.
Earlier in the qualification match, Tay Tung swept Angelicum Learning Center of Cagayan de Oro, 25-16 and 25-17.
For Jose Montalbo, vice chair for sports of Bacolod Tay Tung High School, said that they will return in the tournament next year stronger and prepared. Moreover, he added that his team have gained lots of confidence ahead of next month’s Palarong Panlalawigan.
The Nazareth School of National University defeated De La Salle-Lipa, 25-23, 24-26, 25-14, 25-12 to claim the Rebisco Volleyball League Girls 18 and Under championship title.*
