Arianne Espida suits up for Egypt tourney

With the 2017 World Cadet Taekwondo Championships officially opened yesterday in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, another Negrense jin has joined the Meralco/MVP Sports Foundation-bankrolled Philippine Team.

Bacolod City-native Arianne Espida, a mainstay of the Negros Taekwondo Union Tigers, completed the 8 Filipino players vying for honors against the contenders from 69 other countries like Korea, France, Spain, Iran, Turkey, the United States, and China, to name a few.Espida will be fighting in the -37 kilograms division with fellow Negrense Mary Angeline Alcantara in the -44 kg category, Gerianne Kendall Therese Pineda (-41 kg), and Maria Carmella Santos (-55 kg). Espida will be fighting in the -37 kilograms division with fellow Negrense Mary Angeline Alcantara in the -44 kg category, Gerianne Kendall Therese Pineda (-41 kg), and Maria Carmella Santos (-55 kg). Meanwhile, fighting for the male division include Lex Joshua Provido (-33 kg), Mico Gabriel Chua (-37 kg), Raphael Ongkiko (-41 kg) and Richard Jude Cajulis (-53 kg).

Heading the delegation is Hamy Tabua together with coaches Alvin Taraya and Brix Darmo Ramos.

The Philippines has always been considered as one of the top contenders in various taekwondo international competitions with Wendil Jay Rama winning the bronze medal at the 2015 World Cadet Championships.*
