The Bacolod City will be the leading contingent of the NIR delegation after winning almost half of the total medals in the 2017 Palarong NIR in Dumaguete with a total of 156 golds, 94 silvers and 77 bronze medals in the regular sports –87 golds, 61 silvers and 43 bronzes in the secondary division while 69 gold medals, 33 silvers; and 34 bronzes for the elementary division.

Earlier, DepEd NIR OIC Director Gilbert Sadsad said that the region has also allocated around P9 million intended for the food and transportation allowances of the student-athletes, coaches and officials of the week-long sports undertaking.

The Negros Island Region (NIR) is looking at improving its last year’s 6th place over-all finish in the Palarong Pambansa when this year’s edition kicks off.

It was recalled that NIR garnered a total of 21 golds, 28 silvers and 39 bronzes during the 2016 Palaro in Albay – there output since both the Negros provinces –Occidental separated from Western Visayas and Oriental from Central Visayas. Western Visayas finished third over-all with 35-35-39 medal count while Central Visayas on fourth over-all with 29-31-29 medal tally.*
