200 teams eyed in 1st Puma Se7ens Cup Visayas Qualifying

AROUND 200 teams from across the Visayas region are expected to converge at the San Julio Realty football fields on March 4-5, 2017 for the 1st Puma Se7ens Cup Visayas Leg.

This was revealed during the official launching of the sports event on Monday at the San Carlos City Session Hall together with Puma’s Joemar Moscaya, San Carlos City FC Gen-Sec John Carmona and San Carlos City Football Coordinator Jose Dennis Peñalosa.

Carmona said that this event will serve as the Visayas qualifying rounds for a bigger national championship in summer– which San Carlos City also bids to host. “With the remaining dates, we would be able to achieve the expected 200 teams but, can’t exceed from it because it will be too crowded.”

Meanwhile, Peñalosa assured that the city has enough fields to play 13 categories that include: boys’ and girls’ U9 mixed, U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19 age groups, and the Men and Women’s Open. “We also assure participants that games will be finished before sunsets,” he added.

Carmona likewise stressed that all the needed requirements for the staging of the tournament are all set – including the medical support. “Our City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) are ready and just in front of the venue,” he said.

Moreover, the host-organizer also considers making arrangements for the teams coming from some parts of Negros Occidental, Panay Island, Negros Oriental and even Bacolod.

For Moscaya, it’s Puma’s commitment of bringing football in the provinces to give opportunities for provincial-based footballers to experience competitive football. “While many asked for a 11-a-side standard tournament, we pushed for 7-a-side to have more teams playing – aside from having a fast-pace matches,” he added.

Registration is Php 2,00 per team.

Interested teams may contact Peñalosa at 0922.210.3449 or 0905.291.0534, or Carmona at 0906.364.7915 for more details.*
