VALLACAR Transit, Inc., which operates under the giant umbrella of the Yanson Group of Bus Companies (YGBC) signed a 1 megawatt solar power contract with UpGrade Energy Philippines on December 20, 2016 held at their Ceres compound in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
Vallacar Chief Executive officer Leo Rey Yanson with Atty. Gao Pronove, UGEP President who once served as a United Nations official working on Climate Change, Norman Jison, UGEP Director and Engr. Rhonalyn Guerrero, their sales director signed the contract for the installation of a 500kilowatt of solar roof at Ceres compound and 150kW at the newly opened Ceres North Terminal in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.
The installation will start by January next year and will be operational by February 2017.
UGEP is a Filipino-Belgian joint venture that offers a full range of renewable energy solutions including solar, biomass and energy efficiency. In solar, UGEP has installed a 1MW at Sola ire Resorts and Casino and 1.8MW at the CW Home Depot warehouse in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
This is the first and largest solar roof in Negros Occidental which will greatly compliment with their existing Ceneco run electricity.
This solar power source is best for companies that have a high day time use, Gao said.
This will only cost for about a P1 per kilowatt hour. These installations will be the largest solar roofs in the province which plays host to the almost half of all solar farms in the country. But unlike solar farms, these solar roofs do not compete with agriculture, he said.
Furthermore, Mr. Yanson said these solar roofs show our commitment to renewable energy and sustainable economic development.
Engr. Guerrero said the solar roof is expected to significantly reduce Vallacar’s electricity consumption and also its dependence on the local grid. The total capacity of the solar roofs will offset about 190,000 kWh a year in Ceres North Terminal and about 650,000 kWh a year in their Mansilingan compound.
Rey Repollo, Vallacar’s VP for External Affairs said the partnership with UGEP will result in significant long term savings and minimal risks. UGEP sized and designed the solar roofs so that all of the power produced is consumed by the host facility, resulting for a faster payback.
UGEP will also insure, operate and maintain the roofs under an equipment lease program with no cash outlay on our part, Repollo added.*
