CPSU booters defends SCUAA regionals title

SAN Carlos City-based Central Philippine State University (CPSU) successfully defended their title in the just-concluded 2016 State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Regional Meet men’s football event at the Governor Mariano Perdices Memorial Stadium in Dumaguete City.

Reigning national champions CPSU outplayed Carlos Hilado Memorial State College-Talisay, 5-2 behind the goals of Christian Tenebroso alongside Jeff Paparon and Jeomar Caruscay with 2 goals each.

CPSU also ruled over host-Negros Oriental State University, 5-1 during their initial match on goals from Tenebroso, Paparon, Caruscay, Ramram Tiongson, and Vendyll Marcellana.

For CPSU head coach John Carmona, looking at the National SCUAA Championships on February next year to be hosted in Batangas State University stressed that he still need to re-inforce his team with 3-4 players from CHMSC and NORSU to ensure a strong side in the nationals.

He described those SCUAA teams to have players that can play and compete even against the top UAAP and NCAA teams. “All they need are good technical coaches and good match organizations,” he added.

Meanwhile, CHMSC badminton team also earn their spot in the national championships after defended their regional title.*
