ANTIQUE is 2017 Palarong Pambansa host.
For the first time in the history of Palarong Pambansa staging, the Palaro Board on Friday reportedly awarded the hosting rights to Antique province – which entered late in the picture after Negros Occidental, Iloilo and Cebu withdrawn from the process on issue of budget.
In her social media account, Antique Gov. Rhodora Cadiao said that it’s their long dream of hosting such big event as the Palarong Pambansa. “Today, we will face the final phase of the bidding process for the hosting of the 60th Palarong Pambansa next year.”
“We might be a small voice but, they heard us for we are united. My heart goes to all of you my fellow Antiqueños, thank you for giving me and the whole team Antique, the strength and the energy to persevere in bidding for the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa,” the governor added.
In Palarong Pambansa hosting, among those criteria considered for the selection of the venues are: sports facilities to be used must be of international standard and that these are well-secured but accessible to the general public.
Furthermore, the host local government must be capable and willing to shoulder expenses including construction and renovation of sports facilities, billeting and other infrastructural requirement.
Among those reportedly backed up Antique’s bid are Antiqueña Sen. Loren Legarda and Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara.
Antique is also set to host the 2017 West Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in February next year.*
