This is how Ceres Negros FC (formerly Ceres-La Salle FC) found itself right now when it was nominated as Sports Tourism Event of the Year – Domestic and Sports Tourism Organizer of the Year – Private to the 1st Philippine Sports Tourism Awards Night on November 22, 2016 at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.
Representing Ceres Negros FC in this event are Club Administrator Nicolas Golez, Warren Concepcion –Ceres FC competition committee head, and media officer Jerome Galunan Jr.
The nomination was based on the staging of the 3rd Ceres Cup staged last May 21-22, 2016 in three different venues. The event also gathered almost 6,000 players from across the country suiting up in 420 plus teams.
The Ceres Cup which started initially as Ceres FC Friendship Cup held early 2014 has gathered 200 plus teams but, eventually grew to 306 teams when the inaugural Ceres Cup was stage in May of the same year.
With the successful hosting of the 1st Ceres Cup, it further increased its participants on its second year – breaking not only its record but, also wrote history having the most number of teams participating in a single tournament.
It’s been a vision of Ceres Negros FC owner and president Leo Rey Yanson to provide a football festival aimed at giving enthusiasts the opportunity to foster and exhibit sportsmanship in a competitive, safe, and friendly environment.
And with the successful staging of the Ceres Cup has become an encouragement and promotion of football development in the country – making it the most popular in terms of participation aside from contributing to the sports tourism initiatives of the province.*
